Check List for Rice Cooker

If you want to buy a rice cooker or even if you have a brand in mind, there are a few things that you’d better consider. Therefore in this list I want to present some tips to help you find the right kitchen appliance for you.

More high-end models come with lots of advanced features and programs, which may figure into your decision on which one to buy. Bonus features include programs to keep rice warm and ready to eat, to speed up the cooking time, to reheat rice or to decide when the rice cooker begin cooking. Keep in mind that all those extra abilities will come with a few extra dollars tacked onto the price. Do you want a lot of features or just a cheap, get-it-done model?

When choosing a rice cooker, consider how much rice you want to prepare. Rice cookers work best when used for their intended serving sizes so make sure you consider how much rice you'll cook on average. Nowadays there are three main sizes for domestic rice cooking appliances. They come in small, medium and large. These sizes can feed a maximum of five, ten and eighteen people. But getting the biggest machine is not necessarily the best. However if you have to feed an entire family, you may have to get the mid-sized or large cooker. Rice cooker with programs is more used in Asian areas for cooking porridge or soup. A basic rice cooker with small size like 1.5L capacity is a better choice for westerners who do not eat rice often. To be honest, there is not much of a price difference between sizes. Much bigger differences can be found between machines with different technological components.

You want to prepare other foods in your rice cooker? If that's the case, choosing a rice cooker with a steaming tray is a good idea. Insert the steaming tray, loaded with veggies, above the water level. As the water boils off and evaporates while cooking the rice, released steam will also cook the vegetables.
