Kitchen Safety Tips
Kitchen is the favorite place where families spend a lot of time getting together. However, many injuries could happen there. Here are some tips for safe kitchen.
• Know Your Equipment and Handle it Properly
Read instructions carefully, learn how to use them properly. Never use electric appliances with frayed cord, and always keep them dry and away from water. And don't use an appliance for a purpose for which it wasn't designed. Never try to release anything caught in blenders or mixers when it’s working. Be careful with the blades, they are very sharp and could cut you even a brush against them.
• Watch Out for Steam
Always keep it in mind that the steam rising from the boiling pot / steam cooker can scald you as well. When lift the lid off, remember to do it with a cloth or oven gloves, tilt the lid away from you so the steam would escape on the side opposite to you.
• Oil and Water DO NOT MIX
Never put water or other liquid into hot oil, it can violently explode. When the oil in the deep fryer catches fire, cover it with the lid or damp cloth and turn off gas or power. You can use extinguisher but NEVER use water. Do not try to carry the burning pan!
• Keep a Fire Extinguisher in the Kitchen
Be prepared for the worst, have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen, away from cooking appliances. And always check its availability, and make sure that you know how to use it.
• Familiar with Your Kitchen
Make sure that you know where to turn off the electricity, gas and water supplies in emergency.
Another golden rule is never leave the kitchen appliances working unattended. If the door bell or telephone rings, turn off these appliances before you answer.
