The Maintenance of Humidifier
Humidifiers are effective in relieving congestion and breathing issues. You need clean your humidifier regularly in order to prevent any mold or noise.
Here are some tips for your maintenance of the humidifier:
1. Clean it routinely
Never store a humidifier with a wet filter or without cleaning, disinfecting the unit and drying every component completely before storing it. Even if you have already cleaned it before storing, when you reuse it, give it another cleaning before filling with water. There could be even a small amount of bacteria that has remained in the humidifier when stored. This may seem like excessive cleaning, but germs can so easily grow where any humidity remains, that you should consider it an important step to guard against the spread of bacteria.
2. Filters require periodic replacement to ensure the machine functions properly.
Scale can easily accumulate if the water contains a lot of mineral content. It will hamper the operation of your humidifier. Other factors can also attribute to the durability of the filter. You are supposed to renew the filter or clean the whole unit when you find odor from the humidifier, even if you changed the filter last week.
3. The tank need to be refilled and cleaned regularly
a. Turn off the humidifier
b. Empty the water tank
c. Pour white vinegar into the base and leave it there for 5 minutes
d. Dump out the vinegar and rinse both the base
e. Pour about 1/3 to 1 tsp. bleach and water into the base
f. Leave the bleach solution there for 20 minutes
g. Dump out the bleach water. Rinse well
h. Dry the humidifier components with a paper towel or a cloth
i. Reassemble the components
Be pro-active when it comes to humidifier care and always keep a spare filter on hand.
